Last night in Haiti

For my last night in Haiti, Sister Judy and our leader Jeff Kempf have taken us to a very nice restaurant just minutes from the hospital grounds. It was a great way to end the trip.

We began the morning with a memorable meeting we are sure will make history. We began the conversation of partnering with St. Damien to be co-faculty for their first pediatric nurse practitioner program. What amazing conversations we had with sister Judy and the medical director here.

Similarly to us, there simply are not enough pediatricians in this country to service the volume of children who present for care. Nor are there enough programs to address the complex health problems they face.

Training pediatric NPs through this wonderful design would revolutionize the way healthcare is delivered in Haiti. After this meeting, Tracey Herstich and I covered the ER, gaining more insight into the medical needs here. We are certain we will be back. It has been a humbling and blessed week.

Although I am anxious to return home to my family, I know serving in this capacity is a calling that cannot be ignored. We pray for safe travels, see everyone back in Akron!
