Cash Dash Finishes Strong

The ‘Cash Dash for Cancer,’ an online fundraising campaign which was held Aug. 23-25, raised $3,180 to support cancer research at the hospital. In addition to the donations made online, the Showers Family Foundation matched dollar-for dollar, bringing the grand total to $6,360.

“We want to thank those who participated in the Cash Dash,” said Pam Holtz, director of annual giving at Akron Children’s Hospital. “We continue to be amazed at the support shown by the Showers Family Foundation, as well as the community.”

In 2002, David and Martha Showers gave $3 million to help build the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders and to fund its patient care, research and education programs. The center ranks in the top one-third of pediatric cancer centers in the U.S. based upon the number of new cancer cases treated each year and has been recognized by US News and World Report and the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
