There were plenty of feet (and paws) on the streets around Akron Children’s Hospital for the 28th annual Kids Are #1 Run and Family Fun Day, held June 2, 2013, in Perkins Square Park.

Nearly 1,200 runners, walkers, and dogs participated, supported by hundreds of hospital staff, volunteers, family members and friends.

“There were several changes this year, including the new morning start time, so we were very pleased by the continued support the kids run,” said Carolyn B. Hofmann, the run coordinator. “The combination of fun and fitness activities has made this event an annual tradition for many of the families that we serve.”

In addition to the 5K race, a one-mile fun run/walk and the Paws for a Cause dog walk, there were plenty of activities to fill out the morning, including children’s games, door prizes, entertainment, refreshments and visits from many family-focused hospital services, as well as community agencies such as the Akron Zoo.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Akron Children’s Locust Pediatric Care Group and Transport Services.
