When my daughter, Everly, was born prematurely at 33 weeks I quickly learned that nurses can make or break your time in the NICU. Nurses are primarily the ones caring for your baby and communicating with you as a parent.
I basically spent every waking hour with my daughter, but at night, I found such peace in the tender care of one of her regular midnight nurses, Steph Zielinski. She was competent and always included me in my daughter’s care. She made me, as a mom, feel understood. She answered my questions and she made me feel that my daughter wasn’t just another patient to her. She went above and beyond and it helped me to be at ease when I would run to catch a few hours of sleep or when I would go home one night a week to stay with my 3-year-old daughter and husband.
I hope every tiny patient and their overwhelmed family can experience the love, attention, and specialized care that we experienced with Nurse Steph! Our time in the NICU was so much more bearable once we were under her care and my family will always be eternally grateful.
