Preemies celebrate 1st birthday (Video)

Blazosky family celebrates twins' 1st birthday

My twins Raelyn and Jaxson are graduates of Akron Children’s NICU. Born at 28 weeks, they just celebrated their 1st birthday and are healthy and happy babies. I made this video of their first year.

Here’s our back story.

After trying for a few years to get pregnant, Ben and I decided to see a fertility doctor. He diagnosed me with endometriosis and I had to have surgery.

My window after surgery was about 4 months until my disease would return and lessen my chances again. I gave myself hormone shots as part of  IUI (artificial insemination), and after 2 rounds of shots I found out I was pregnant.

A few weeks later we found out we were having twins!

The doctor put me on home bed rest at 10 weeks due to blood clots in my uterus. While I wasn’t “in bed,” I had very limited activity.

At 23 weeks my water broke and I was admitted to Akron City Hospital. Then I was put on very strict bed rest and I prayed every day.

At 28 weeks I went into labor and delivered my babies with no complications. But because I was only 28 weeks, a team of doctors and nurses waited at my bedside for each baby.

As soon as they were born, they put breathing tubes and IVs in them. Their lungs were very weak and they were very small. Raelyn weighed 2 lbs., 4 oz., and Jaxson was 2 lbs., 7 oz.

They transported them to Akron Children’s NICU soon after that.

My husband and family went shortly after to be with them, while I was still at Akron City.

Jaxson took a turn for the worse and they released me a few hours after delivery to go be with him and pray for his life. After hours and hours of trying everything they could, the doctors and nurses were out of options. We were being prepared for the worst.

But they weren’t willing to give up on him. They said there was one more thing they could try but they had never done it before. After that, Jaxson starting fighting and his numbers came up. He started to improve slowly.

By the end of the day he was stable. The doctors and nurses were so amazing. They never gave up on our Jaxson. I am so forever grateful for them.

Day after day I watched the doctors and nurses care for my 2 tiny miracles. They always kept me informed and were so caring and nice to me and my family.

After 100 days there I became very close with the whole staff – from the greeters in the lobby to the staff at the Reinberger Family Center, and almost everyone in the NICU.

We had a few primary nurses who were so amazing and always so great with us. I am forever grateful to everyone at Akron Children’s Hospital.

They sent us home on Mothers Day!

Thanks to the nurses, I felt so comfortable and ready to care for my babies at home. Today, Raelyn and Jaxson are healthy and happy babies. The have met all their milestones and are just perfect.
