Coming full circle – from NICU patient to doctor

On Nov. 8, 1986, our son, Zac, came into the world 7 weeks early due to complications of preeclampsia. He was born at Akron City and then transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital because of a suspected bowel blockage.

We were told that he would be there until his due date, but he soon began to thrive and his stay was only 3 weeks. He went home at a whopping 4 lbs., 9 oz.!

He had a healthy childhood – just the normal kid stuff – and I know, in my heart, that is because of Akron Children’s and the excellent care he received from the beginning.

He graduated with honors from Ohio University; completed medical school at The Ohio State University; and is beginning his 2nd year of an emergency physician residency at Akron General Medical Center. He recently completed a month long rotation in the ER at Akron Children’s.

While we look forward to what the future holds for him, when he received his “match” to Akron, we could only feel that his life has already come full circle. We will forever be thankful!
