My son Gage was diagnosed with gastroschisis (an abdominal wall defect) at 19 weeks (gestation) and it killed us. He was born 8 weeks early via emergency c-section at Cleveland Clinic Akron General when his heart stopped – at 4:17 p.m. He weighed just 3 pounds and 3 ounces!
He was transported to Akron Children’s. I was not able to see him for 3 days until I was well. When I stepped into your hospital, I fell in love with every nurse who helped our son.
Within 2 hours of birth they placed him in a silo bag to keep his stomach and intestinal parts moist. It took 3 days to get all of his bowels back in place and about 4 weeks for it to close up.
He was in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) for 2 months and 3 days. We stayed strong and our little boy fought and never gave up. You guys have an amazing team who took amazing care of our miracle baby.
He’s is now a year old and crawling everywhere. He is one of the happiest babies I know.
