Towards the end of my freshman year in high school, I dealt with a lot of physical problems such as shaking, chest pain, and passing out. Not knowing what was wrong I went to many doctors trying to find answers. Then one night at practice, I was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and they found I had an irregular heartbeat that showed up perfectly on the EKG. I was then diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
I was referred to cardiologist John Clark at Akron Children’s Hospital. Going into the hospital for the first time was very scary for me as well as my parents. I remember telling myself over and over, “I have to be brave, stay strong, and not cry.” Upon meeting Dr. John Clark and the rest of the staff, I had a sense of calm come over me. I knew I was in good hands. I had the heart ablation procedure done. I’m considered cured, and I just finished my freshman year of college.
Thanks to the hard work of Dr. John Clark and the rest of the staff, I am living a healthy life. They impressed me so much that I can’t even put into words what I feel. I now tell everyone what an amazing hospital Akron Children’s really is. It has left such a big impact on me that I hope to someday be a part of this amazing staff and hospital!
