On Sunday, May 29, my 8-year-old son, Brandon, asked me if he could do a lemonade stand to raise money for Haiti. When I asked him why he chose Haiti, he said, “Because they had the earthquake and there are a lot of families who are hurt. They need the help. They don’t have things like we do.”
The next day, we bought everything we needed. Brandon coordinated all of the supplies and I made the lemonade. Brandon and his friend Ethan made the signs and set up the table. They ran the stand for 3 hours. The lemonade stand became the stopping point for other kids in the neighborhood who wanted to help. They raised $42.
The following week I found out that Drs. Jeff and Ellen Kempf were leaving for Haiti. I saw Ellen in the parking deck so I gave her the money to take with them. (Check out the Kempfs’ blog posts about Haiti.)
Brandon was so excited when he knew the money was actually going to make it to the kids in Haiti that he’s now ready to do this again.
