I was 19 years old and pregnant with my daughter. One evening, I experienced serious back pain. I didn’t think too much of it at the time because I had had back pain before. The next morning, the back pain was gone but I started having even more painful stomach cramps, as if I had to use the restroom, but when I tried it hurt even worse.
My mom thought I was in labor so she drove me to Union Hospital in Dover (OH). When the doctors examined me, they couldn’t find my daughter’s heart beat so they performed an emergency c-section. Despite complications, including a ruptured placenta, my daughter was alive and was transported to the NICU at Akron Children’s.
Thanks to these wonderful doctors and nurses, I have an amazing 7-month-old, 16-pound daughter. She is so smart. If it wasn’t for Children’s, I wouldn’t have her today.
