My son had surgery on June 8, 2010, to apply a leg lengthening device. The surgery was done by Dr. Schrader at Akron Children’s Hospital. We drive every other week to Dr. Schrader’s office to check on the progress of the leg growth. The device is still on and we will go in next week to take the electronic part off. Then we will wait for the bone to grow in, then surgery to remove the rod and 6 pins. A cast will be put on then for the remainder of bone to grow in.
This has been a very long process for us. But Dr. Schrader and his staff have been great. We have built a special bond with them all. My son was premature at birth weighing only 1 pound 10 oz and spent 2 1/2 months in NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital. We have had nothing but good experiences there. Everyone who has given my son care has been great. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, volunteers and even the nice janitors.
