Leslie and I continue to be busy. Our excitement grows day by day because our move into the Expressive Therapy Center may be as early as March 18. Our office is currently in the Locust Professional Building, so we look forward to being centrally located within Akron Children’s Hospital. Based on what we’re hearing, we hope to open the front doors of the center on April 1. We will keep you posted. We are very grateful to all the people who are making this dream come to fruition. Many individuals have been working hard behind the scenes.
We added two people to our team. Last week we welcomed Emily Dennis, and this week, Lisa Marie Holley joined us. Emily is our new art therapist/artist-in–residence, thanks to a grant from the Livestrong Foundation. Lisa Marie is our program assistant. She has amazing technical and creative skills that will benefit the center.
I want to share just a little bit about Emily. A native of Akron, Emily recently graduated from Ursuline College with a master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling. She will work with Akron Children’s cancer patients and their families. On Thursday she met key people on the cancer and blood disorders unit, and child life specialist Brenda Powell has been kind enough to be her point person.
