My daughter would have died in 2009 if it were not for the care she received from Akron Children’s critical care team. She had acquired a mysterious, life-threatening bacterial infection that caused her kidneys to fail and her blood to become dangerously anemic.
It was a surreal experience when the doctors admitted her to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). But the critical care doctors showed such compassion and expertise that it helped us get through the most terrifying experience we’ve ever encountered.
Two years later, my daughter is graduating from high school and getting ready for college. I owe it all to Akron Children’s, especially the critical care team.
May is National Critical Care Awareness and Recognition Month. In honor of these special providers, I want to give a shout-out to Akron Children’s critical care team which treats more than 1,100 kids each year.
