Michelle called Akron Children’s Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center, which provides care to children with life-threatening or chronic illness and their families.
Together, Michelle and the center decided to have the students collect and donate non-perishable food items and toiletries for the center’s comfort cart.
The comfort cart provides free, personal care and other items that families can use during their child’s hospitalization, especially frequent, long admissions.
Volunteers roll the cart to the children’s rooms so families may select food snacks, puzzles, toiletries, coloring books, games and other practical items.
With the support of Dan Fry, the school’s principal, Michelle, along with Lisa Gergely, another 4th grade teacher, sent notes home to engage the parents and children in the project.
Marie Parker, the former PTA president at Bath Elementary and volunteer for Akron Children’s palliative care center, collected the items at the school and thanked those involved.
The families and staff at the palliative care center are so grateful to the students and their parents for their generosity and support of our program.
