Phillip Neal was born prematurely and treated at Summa Akron City Hospital 21 years ago. Today, he has signed up to become a Change Bandit to support the 2012 “Have a Heart, Do Your Part” Radiothon, which airs Feb. 9-11 on 98.1 WKDD.
I was born three months premature at Akron City Hospital on Feb. 6, 1991. I only weighed 3 lbs. 4 oz. The doctors at Akron City told my mother my chance of survival was not great and to not plan on bringing me home.
They eventually moved me to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Akron Children’s where I spent 21 days. I left the hospital weighing 4lbs. 9 oz.
Almost 21 years old, I am a student at ITT Tech. I still have some medical issues, but it feels great to defy the odds and live the life I have now.
