Kristina Perkins went to Akron Children’s Hospital when her daughter experienced what she thought was constipation, but it was much more. To show gratitude for saving her daughter’s life, she signed up to be a Change Bandit and is raising money for “The Have a Heart, Do Your Part” radiothon, which airs Feb. 9-11 on 98.1 WKDD.
Almost three years ago, our daughter, McKenna, was experiencing what we thought was constipation. We decided to have the doctors take a look. Just after midnight, we drove to Akron Children’s Hospital. The doctor assigned to us went above and beyond in his care for our daughter. Before he gave her any treatment, he decided to do an x-ray to be sure his diagnosis was correct.
The x-ray showed something else. Several hours later McKenna had a CT scan that revealed a tumor on her liver.
You cannot imagine how a mother feels in a situation like mine. The emotions I experienced when I was told my child had a tumor were overwhelming, but thankfully, the doctors at Akron Children’s saved our daughter’s life.
Every time we are there for a check-up, I thank the doctors and nurses. I never saw the doctor from that night three years ago, but I made sure to tell someone who knows him to thank him for me. Akron Children’s did not just save our daughter; they saved our entire family.
