When I was younger, my dad drove me to school almost every day, and almost every day we listened to WKDD. Naturally, I listened to the “Have a Heart, Do Your Part” radiothon for Akron Children’s Hospital, and I remembered wondering what it would be like to witness such a high energy event.
This year was my chance.
When I entered the hospital lobby on Thursday, there was a buzz in the air. The excitement of staff, volunteers, patients and their families, and community members was contagious, especially the young Change Bandits.
To see the children excited about giving back (and the chance to be on the radio) really hit home with me, as well as listening to the patient stories. The stories were inspiring and emotional. People’s lives are touched here, every day.
The 2012 Radiothon raised a whopping $716,494 and this could not have happened without the Change Bandits, volunteers, donors, employees, listeners and the WKDD team.
We cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity and support of the hospital.
I’ve always wanted to be involved in work that impacts others and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work at Akron Children’s. The hospital makes a difference in our community and what’s even more unique is its ability to inspire the community to make a difference, as well.
