While it didn’t have the pizzaazz of the victory celebrations in London, Akron Children’s Magnet re-designation celebration was one of the biggest events to happen here this year. About 200 people attended an open house to celebrate our achievement of Magnet re-designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program.
“Magnet designation is like winning the gold medal in the Olympics,” said Lisa Aurilio, vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer at Akron Children’s. “It demonstrates the excellence of our nurses in providing outstanding patient care and would not be possible without the contributions of our entire clinical and support staff. It’s a team effort and a testament to the high-quality, family-centered care that defines our mission.”
The celebration included live music by The Hitmen, a runner-up for the 2012 Best Local Bands, dancing, refreshments, and beautiful and dazzling food sculptures by Akron Children’s own Betty Alford.
