When our son, Gianni, was 5 weeks old, he became critically ill with infant botulism. He was in the pediatric intensive care unit at Akron Children’s Hospital for three weeks, with two weeks on life support.
Gianni went through a series of tests in order for the doctors to come up with an accurate diagnosis. He had everything from blood tests, CAT scans and MRIs to EEG brain scans and three spinal taps.
The doctors and nurses in the PICU were amazing. They took excellent care of my baby. They also cared about us as parents.
The night Gianni stopped breathing was the worst. There were almost 20 doctors and nurses in our room within the drop of a hat. After they made sure Gianni was taken care of, the doctor on the floor that night came over to make sure I was okay too.
They are truly amazing. If we would have been sent anywhere else, I don’t even want to think about what the outcome could have been. Gianni is now a perfectly healthy, smart, happy 9 month old. We couldn’t be more blessed.
