While colon cancer may be the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women, caught in time, it can be a very preventable disease. During National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, held each year in March, the Genetic Center at Akron Children’s Hospital encourages adults to learn more about their risk for this disease.
A lot of people have been starting to ask me about my pregnancy and how I’ve dealt with learning about Isaiah’s diagnosis. We did not know prenatally that Isaiah had Down syndrome.
Last month, my 11-year-old son had an outpatient surgical procedure performed at Akron Children’s. I work for the hospital’s foundation as a grant writer, so I had written many times about the wonderful patient care our staff provides, but experiencing it first-hand was truly inspiring.
