The Inspiration Elves at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, familiar participants in the Holiday Tree Festival, have spent the last few months designing and crafting a one-of-a-kind vignette for this year’s special raffle.
The hand-built vignette, titled “Believe in Burlap,” showcases one of the hottest trends in crafting – Burlap fabric – in unexpected and exciting ways.
“Burlap is incredibly popular in crafting and DIY right now, especially on Pinterest, so we decided to create our entire vignette using different fabrications of this one crafting medium,” said Amy Johns, senior event specialist at Jo-Ann.
Burlap is traditionally a coarse canvas woven from jute, hemp, or similar fiber – you may remember it as the foundation of your childhood potato sack races. Today, crafters use it for everything from household upholstery to rustic wedding décor and more.
“The tree itself is made almost entirely of burlap and so are the majority of the décor items and accessories around the vignette – except, of course, the gifts under the tree. We hope our vignette inspires people to think outside of the box and try a craft or project they otherwise wouldn’t have,” said Johns.
Jo-Ann not only submits items for the special raffle each year. The locally-headquartered retailer has also been a major underwriter of the festival for years.
“Akron Children’s Hospital is such a wonderful and worthy organization,” said Johns. “The Holiday Tree Festival an inspiring family-friendly event for a great cause. We are thrilled to be able to support it each year.”
