I just want to share my story with you. This is my amazing son, Colton. He was born on August 28th.
When he was born he did not cry and he did not open his eyes. He just laid there.
He was born at Wooster Community Hospital and was transported to Akron Children’s. I will never forget the moment the doctor told us he just can’t keep his O2 (oxygen level) up on his own and is having trouble breathing. We decided to wait it out because the doctor told us that it does happen sometimes and babies usually pull through it.
As time passed nothing changed. He just wouldn’t come off room air so the doctor approached us with options. We chose to have him sent to Akron Children’s via MICU (ambulance). The crew showed up and brought him in so mom could see him.
They were so supportive. I followed them up to the hospital and waited until I could see him. I stayed up there for about four days and everyday I could not believe the support I got from every person in the NICU. All the rooms were full at the time and they still found somewhere for me to sleep every night.
On the first night I went into the NICU and saw him, I could not believe what I saw. I saw my little Colton with his eyes open and a smile. He went through a few X-rays and they found fluid in his lungs, then the next day he was on room air. I want to thank every single person there.
Being in the fire service I see the MICU crews every once in a while and sometimes get to see the people at Akron Children’s, and every time I cannot thank them enough. I truly do love and support this hospital.
God Bless all of you and thank you for my son’s perfect recovery!
