For 8 hours on this day in 2013, our son was in surgery. Five hours of that time our son’s heart was stopped.
When the surgeon came to talk to us about the surgery, they told us our son was pink. Tears came falling down, tears of relief.
When we walked back to the recovery room we saw our son pink for the first time in his life! Tears of happiness and joy filled the room. Our son now has a chance to live. He has a chance to grow up.
Words can’t explain how we felt on this day — the day we witnessed a miracle before our eyes.
Jonathan is 22 months old today. He has tetralogy of fallot and pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (VSD). We have more surgeries to come, but this marks one year since his big surgery.
Today we give the biggest thank you to his heart surgeons, doctors Smith and Spector, and Akron Children’s Heart Center for saving our son’s life!!! Jonathan is a fighter! Today we celebrate our HERO.
