Due to the serious and complicating nature of their diagnoses, families with children battling cancer and blood disorders form a special bond with each other, as well as with the doctors, nurses and staff treating them.
In the spirit of the season, Akron Children’s MahoningValley invited its hematology and oncology patients and their immediate families to a holiday party especially for them. The 4th annual “A Holiday Celebration Dinner” drew nearly 200 guests at Antone’s Banquet Centre in Boardman.
Party-goers enjoyed a fabulous dinner, desserts, a DJ, photo booth, craft activity stations, professional family photos and an appearance by Santa Claus himself. Each child also received a special stuffed animal from Santa, and families were given a box of cookies to take home.
The event is organized and funded by Project Ed Bear and Making Kids Count.
