From the moment we walked in everyone was very quick and helpful. Our 4-year-old son hit his head and needed stitches.
He was a little scared but Doug was so wonderful with him and helped him relax and even laugh.
Doug took his time to find our son Niall’s favorite color sunglasses — camo green, the kind of bandage he wanted (blue trucks), and made him feel like it was fun to be there and not scary.
Through the whole process Doug let us know what was happening and what to expect and it was all over in no time at all. With no tears!
When we came in, Niall only had on a coat and no shirt because we couldn’t get one over his head wound at home.
Not only did Doug make sure he was wrapped in warm blankets when he first came into the room, he also made sure Niall had on a new, long-sleeve t-shirt, one with a fun bear wearing a neck tie on it to go home in. He really loved that.
It really was one of the most pleasant experiences for something that was truly scary for any kid or parent.
As part of our year-long anniversary celebration, we’ll be telling the story of Akron Children’s through the eyes of past and present employees, doctors, donors, volunteers and patient families. We encourage you to share your own memories and stories about us.
