When you ask for Dr. Smith in Akron Children’s Hospital’s Heart Center, 3 doctors will turn their head. But, if you ask for the Dr. Smith who has a golf ball collection, only one will stand up.
Meet our newest clinical cardiologist, Brandon Smith. Although he has a common name, his determination in life and ability to help children and adults with congenital heart disease make him anything but ordinary.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was in the 7th grade, my teacher had the class write about our goals. I listed that I wanted to 1. Play varsity basketball 2. Be valedictorian of my class and 3. Become a doctor. I accomplished all 3.
Favorite movie and TV show of all time:
Bad Boys and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Quote to live by:
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman
Who do you most admire?
My father because he’s a great example of how to live life.
If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would it be and why?
My grandfather because I never got to meet him. If I had to choose a famous person, I’d probably pick Jay Z …with Beyoncé. I think my wife would like that, too.

Why did you choose to come to Akron Children’s?
Honestly, I wanted to come back home to Akron. Akron is fortunate to have Children’s as its local pediatric hospital. Children’s is an extremely welcoming and friendly place. The people here make you feel like you’re wanted and belong here.
