Akron Children’s was recognized for its impact to the local community with the naming of Sharon Hrina as “Business Professional of the Year” by the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber.
Sharon, vice president of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, was honored at the chamber’s “Salute to Business” awards event Sept. 3 in Boardman.
“We honored Sharon for all of the accomplishments of the hospital under her leadership and her overall contribution in our Valley that have led to incredible medical care, health initiatives and programs for our children,” said Kim Calvert, vice president of marketing and business services, Regional Chamber.
The chamber noted that in her role at the hospital, Sharon has been committed to transitioning, expanding and developing high-quality, family-centered care for the Mahoning Valley’s children.
Further, she oversaw the expansion of the hospital from an 8-bed unit to a full-service, 32-bed hospital with a 24/7 ER at the Beeghly campus in 2008, as well as the opening of the area’s only dedicated pediatric surgical suite in 2010.
Moving forward, the Regional Chamber lauded the hospital for its planned 10-year, 4-phase strategic facility plan at Beeghly, which will begin in October.
Sharon is a Youngstown native who began her career as a nurse. She’s the Youngstown State University’s Department of Nursing’s 2010 Alumnus of the Year and a 4-time Ohio Nurses Association honoree.
Sharon is active in the community through board and committee involvement in multiple organizations, including Access Health Mahoning Valley, Warren Community Medical Education Corridor and Well Being Collaborative of Ohio.
