Can games make learning more fun? Bingo! They sure can.
Here’s a game to reinforce proper diabetes nutrition that can be played by the whole family. Simply download and print the Nutrition Bingo cards; then print and cut apart the Nutrition Bingo Words. Gather up pennies, small squares of paper or other small objects to serve as game markers.
The goal is to cover 5 squares in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row. First, pick someone (like yourself!) to be the “caller” who calls out phrases appearing on the squares. Before starting, all players can mark off the “FREE” space at the center of their bingo card.
Shuffle the words, randomly pull one from a stack or basket, and read it aloud. Players may place a chip on a square that includes that phrase. When a player gets 5 squares in a row, they shout “BINGO!”
You and your family will have so much fun yelling out “BINGO!” that no one will even realize they’re learning a lot about good nutrition, which is so important for kids who have diabetes.
