On Sept. 26, 5 staff members from Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley set out to complete the challenge of running the Akron Marathon Relay.
Each person ran one leg of the relay. Yet, they were never alone. Chris Loomis, Holly Oleksa, Aimee LeMon, Brian Wilson and Carrie Zorman had a sixth teammate with them in spirit.
Their team, “Charlie’s Angels,” was running in honor of former Mahoning Valley Emergency Department physician and friend, Dr. Charles Newton.
“Charlie” was a man of intelligence, wit and kindness. His genuine humility, desire to make others happy and optimistic outlook on life have left a lasting impression on countless people.
Charlie’s Angels finished their 26.2-mile run that day and they also accomplished their No. 1 goal – keeping Dr. Newton’s memory alive.
The team hopes to run again for Charlie in 2016. Until then, as Charlie would say, “Ciao, baby!” (Dr. Charles Newton 1945-2015)
