When kids visit the Celeste Myers Dental Clinic at Akron Children’s and meet a light-hearted dentist who thinks he resembles a piece of asparagus, even the most nervous patient has to smile. From easing anxiety to teaching kids how to care for their teeth during a checkup, Dr. Jeffrey Berlin knows how to put patient needs first when providing oral health services to infants, children and teens.
Q: If you were a fruit or vegetable, what would you be and why?
A: I think I’d be an asparagus. I’m pretty tall and lanky like an asparagus and it’s super healthy, which I try to be.
Q: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
A: I would love to try living on a big ranch or farm with lots of acres to enjoy. A big front porch with a great view would be great, too!
Q: What did you eat for breakfast?
A: I had two pieces of toast with cheese melted on top. I love to add eggs and hash browns to that on Sunday mornings.
Q: When you curl up on the couch to watch a movie, are you most likely to have a bowl of popcorn, chocolate or box of tissues?
A: I’m most likely to have a bowl of popcorn because I love salty snacks. I’d probably also have a box of tissues, not for tears, but because I always have a stuffy nose in the winter.
Q: What’s your Monday morning must-have item?
A: Coffee … and lots of it!!
Q: Who makes up your family, including pets?
A: My wife, Ellie, daughter Suri (5), son Mayer (3) and one on the way, expected to arrive this spring!
Q: What did you want to be (profession) when you were little?
A: I always wanted to be a pilot. I got a pilot’s license in high school, but decided to keep it as a hobby.
Q: What was your first car and what’s your dream car?
A: My first car was a 1994 Formula Firebird. I really loved it. My dream car is a Ferrari F40. It’s super iconic and was the car my friends and I had posters of in our rooms when we were kids.
Q: If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would it be and why?
A: I would love to have dinner with George Washington. I’ve always loved early American History. The founding of our great nation was miraculous and who better to ask what it was like to be there than Mr. Washington himself!
Q: Why did you choose to come to Akron Children’s?
A: Akron Children’s is a unique and amazing place. Here, the employees are like family and the kids always come first…always!
