Akron Children’s is bringing convenient access, and more pediatric services, to families in Portage County with the opening of its new health center on May 5. The new 29,500-square-foot health center, located at 2497 State Route 59 in Ravenna, will offer primary care, Quick Care and rehabilitative services for babies, kids and teens.
“We understand how important it is to have access to care, especially for today’s busy families. Our new location allows us to bring more pediatric services, with expanded office hours, to the area so families don’t need to travel far for exceptional care,” said Michael Mainwaring, vice president of community care at Akron Children’s Hospital. “We’re always looking for ways to better serve families so the health center provides us with a great footprint for bringing even more specialty services to the area in the future.”
A closer look inside
The health center will be the new home for the Kent and Ravenna offices of Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, which will now bear a new name, Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, Portage. The 23-room office features large exam rooms to treat patients, while providing enough space for families to stay together. A new physician will join the office, which will continue to be staffed by board-certified pediatricians, nurse practitioners and pediatric nurses.
The office is accepting new patients and will begin seeing patients at the new location on Tuesday, May 5. Hours will be 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The building also features Akron Children’s Quick CareTM, the area’s only location dedicated to caring for children and teens with minor illnesses and injuries such as allergies, cuts, sore throats and ear infections. The office will open later this summer and offer convenient hours Monday through Friday from noon-8 p.m., and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The health center is also a new location for the hospital’s rehabilitative services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. More than 6,800 square-feet of the building is dedicated to rehab services, which features 6 therapy rooms and 2,800 square-feet of gym space for exercise, sensory integration and gross motor skills. It also features an indoor therapy track for rehab walking, bikes and tricycles. The office opens Tuesday, May 5 and will provide services Monday through Friday.
