Sharon Hrina, vice president, Akron Children’s Hospital, Mahoning Valley, has been a strong advocate for the support needed to ensure healthy children in the Mahoning Valley.
After 15 years of service we say a fond farewell to Sharon Hrina, vice president, Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.
Sharon has been with Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley since 2005 when she joined the hospital as the administrative director. In 2009 she became the vice president for the Mahoning Valley campus. She immediately recognized the value that Akron Children’s brought to the Valley and has been instrumental since then in helping the hospital make the connections it needed to bring high-quality pediatric health care to that area.

Sharon announced the total raised at the 2020 Miracles and Promises Radiothon in the Mahoning Valley.
An important part of this relationship building was introducing the hospital to supporters in the Mahoning Valley who have a passion for supporting efforts to improve the health and well-being of children. She is one of the strongest advocates for making sure children and families in the Mahoning Valley have access to high-quality health care, from annual check-ups to more complex medical needs.
And while she won’t be with us day-to-day, she will continue to have an impact on Akron Children’s through the newly created Sharon A. Hrina Pediatric Interdisciplinary Education Endowment Fund. The fund will support the ongoing education of our health care providers. This includes a biannual lecture series for Mahoning Valley staff and beyond featuring a regional or national speaker who will address topics relevant to ongoing pediatric education and the hospital’s mission.
This personal generosity comes as no surprise since Sharon has always been a champion for philanthropy for Akron Children’s. She has been an active partner in our fundraising efforts, including the successful Vision for our Valley’s Children campaign which raised $25 million to support the programs and services in the Mahoning Valley – far surpassing the original goal of $18 million.
Sharon is a native of Youngstown and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing Administration in 1988 from University of Pittsburgh. In 2010 she was awarded the Alumnus of the Year by Youngstown State and is a 4-time Ohio Nurses Association honoree.
Once again, thank you Sharon for all you have done to impact the health of the children in the Mahoning Valley. To make a donation to the Sharon H.
