Akron Children’s Hospital was recognized for its impact to the local community with the naming of Sharon Hrina as “Business Professional of the Year” by the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers helped kick off National Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Awareness Month with some special treatment for cancer survivors during the Mahoning Valley’s 4th Annual Kid’s Hematology/Oncology Awareness Celebration.
The event also featured a youth golf clinic sponsored by The Tod Family Foundation. Sixty children participated in the observation clinic that focused on grip, stance, posture and alignment, as well as chipping and putting instruction.
James knows the struggle kids and their families face when they’re battling cancer. Diagnosed with leukemia in 2008, he spent the next 3 ½ years in treatment, first at the hospital’s Akron campus and then at our Beeghly campus. James is telling his story and encouraging his classmates to purchase special gold shoelaces as part of “Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer” during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
