Nearly 35 percent of kids in Ohio are overweight or obese. The number rises to 38 percent in the Mahoning Valley and 43 percent in Trumbull County. In addition to physical activity, eating right is key to reducing those numbers. But that’s easier said than done so we sat down with Michelle Borovitcky, pediatric dietitian, to get her tips to help the entire family eat right.
The Mahoning Valley Healthy Kids Coalition, led by Akron Children’s, is conducting a free “Eat Healthy, Be Active Parent/Child Program” in 4 locations starting this week. The program includes 6 weekly, 1-hour classes where parents and their preschool children gather for fun games, lessons and prizes designed to teach the importance of physical activity and nutrition.
