With football and other fall sports practices in full swing, I want to make sure everybody is aware of the Heat Acclimatization Guidelines, released by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Each year, there are a handful of deaths that occur from heat stroke. Yet, heat illness is totally preventable.
Hot, humid weather can be dangerous for children
Unusually high temperatures, high humidity or vigorous exercise in hot weather can cause our body’s internal heat to build up to dangerous levels. The result may be heat illness, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Since babies and young children are at higher risk, parents should know the symptoms and treatments for heat-related illness.
