When Bobbijo and Dustin Hostlers’ newborn son, Logan, began to aspirate and turn blue after taking a bottle May 9, they knew they needed help to resuscitate him. They tried to dial 911 but they discovered with horror that the phone wasn’t working. They needed to come up with a plan B.
The radiology department at Akron Children’s Beeghly campus has undergone a major renovation. There’s a new area dedicated for sedation services as well as an updated ultrasound scanning area. Most importantly, we’ve installed a new, top-of-the-line MRI.
Akron Children’s Hospital Beeghly campus received a special delivery on Nov. 19 – a MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T MRI. The project cost is estimated to be approximately $2 million.
As Akron Children’s Hospital moves forward with its $200 million campus expansion, a crystal ball would come in handy. With healthcare reform, changing demographics, and other uncertainties, our goal is to build flexibility into our design in every way possible. We can make educated guesses regarding future patient volumes and acuity, reimbursement levels, the always-changing technology and best practices for care, but they are just that – educated guesses.
The Doggie Brigade is a wonderful expression of the family-centered care provided at Akron Children’s Hospital. One of the most powerful examples of this happened in the Radiology department at our Beeghly campus when Jack, a Lab mix, helped a patient through an otherwise difficult experience.
