Nine local talents danced their way into the hearts of more than 500 people recently at the 3rd annual “Dancing for the Kids” event at the Akron Civic Theatre. The show raised $93,386 for the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Akron Children’s.
When 6-year-old Ava Turner smiles at you, you immediately find yourself smiling back. And these days, Ava has a lot to smile about, thanks to Akron Children’s Hospital.
In November 2008, I had a friend who knew Matt Patrick, the radio talk show host who was the popular voice of Akron at the time. When January came around, my friend had asked me a special favor, and that was to help him with this radiothon that Akron Children’s Hospital puts on every year to help raise money for the kids and their families who can’t afford medical expenses. I agreed and was looking forward to it.
As part of the Miracle Meals program, Akron-area restaurants are serving as Change Bandits to help raise money for Akron Children’s Hospital’s Have a Heart, Do Your Part radiothon on WKDD.
The Children’s Champion and Champion for Our Valley’s Children awards honor donors who not only generously support the hospital’s mission and fundraising efforts, but also serve as champions for all children throughout the community.
Last night, 136 of the 650 Change Bandits rallied at the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, for the Change Bandit Bash.
